Forty years after its inception, the Regional Transit Authority is not only still operating but continues to grow. As of 2013, RTA services 59 muncipalities, including 38 cities, has a fleet of over 650 buses, and an estimated ridership of 49 million. Its bus safety program has gained recognition as one of the best in North America, receiving awards by the American Public Transportation Association for 2010 and 2011. Also in 2011, RTA received the Award of Excellence in Infrastructure from the Cleveland Engineering Society for Stephanie Tubbs Jones Transit Center.
