Western Reserve Building from the Flats
The abandoned truck terminal in the foreground was turned into a discotheque called the Cleaveland Crate & Truckin' Company as part of Higbee's investment in the Flats in the early 1970s. The company's broader vision for Settlers' Landing, Cleveland's answer to San Francisco's Ghirardelli Square, included the Western Reserve Building, but the project failed, contributing to the weakening of Higbee's even as it helped lay the groundwork for the eventual redevelopment of the Warehouse District. | Date: 1972 | Source: Cleveland Press Collection, Cleveland State University Library Special Collections
