This sketch prepared by Theodore Scowden in a water works report to City Council appeared in the Cleveland Leader on October 10, 1853. It shows the amount of fill that would be required to build an earthen reservoir at various proposed sites in the City. The Franklin Avenue/Kentucky Street site in Ohio City--that city would not merge with Cleveland until 1854--was considered the safest and most economical of the various sites because, in light of its higher elevation above lake level, it would require the least amount of fill in constructing the reservoir's earthen embankment. | Source: Cleveland Public Library, Newspaper CollectionDownload Original File
