This sketch of the Kentucky Street Reservoir is taken from one of a number of scenes in a large impressionist painting entitled "Cleveland, Ohio." It was created in 1873 by 29-year old Cleveland artist Orlando V. Schubert, who at the time was living on Detroit Street (Avenue) near State (West 29th) Street with his German immigrant parents. The view appears to be from the Reservoir's promenade walk looking south. The prominent building with a tower shown on the right side of the background may be the artist's rendering of St. Patrick Catholic Church, possibly the parish's first church building which was located on Whitman Street. The other two churches with spires on the left side in the background may be the artist's depictions of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, both of which were already standing when the painting was done.
