Investing in Cleveland
In 1881, according to county tax records, a new building was erected for John Dempsey on a commercial lot on the east side of Bank (West 6th) Street between St. Clair and Frankfort Streets (Avenues). From 1888 to 1897, the building was leased to the Union Carriage & Toy Co., as the above photo taken during that period shows. This building, which was known as the Dempsey Block and had an address of 189-191 Bank (1391 W. 6th) Street, remained in the Dempsey family until 1940. It was razed in the 1970s. | Source: Jim Dempsey (a great-great grandson of John Dempsey)
